As discussed in our Micro and Modular lifestyle trend, the scarcity of affordable housing is driving changes to how we approach living space. With micro apartments on the rise there is a demand for smart, flexible systems that adapt to our varied daily needs. Ori is a smart furniture system that adapts the living space with programmable sliding components. The system was created by Yves Behar, founder of branding and design company Fuseprojects along with robotics company Ori. Inspired by origami, the automated components move smoothly to create beautiful and functional spaces. Using the open source platform Wikihouse, Dot Architects have created an adaptable co-working space in the historical Baitasi Hutong neighbourhood of Beijing. Moveable furniture modules are controlled by smart TV and transform the space for multiple scenarios and occupants.
For Heimtextil Themepark 2018 Studio Mama have created a one-off interactive installation. Three moveable living components can be re-arranged in different configurations and allow visitors to explore micro-modular living for themselves.
